Q

cognitive theorists main assumptions

A
  • comparisons can be made between the mind/brain and a computer
  • believe behaviour is a result of internal mental processes
  • argues mental processes shoudl be involved

Q

theoretical models definition

A

cognitive approach uses theoretical models to represent internalk cognitive processes - they are visual disgrams that show how internal mental processes work e.g. MSM

Q

information processing model definition

A
  • sensory info -(input) process (schema) -(output) behaviour
  • type/print a word doc - computer process demand - saves based on demand

Q

schemas definition and what do they do

A

cognitive frameworks used to speed up information processing - created and refined by our experience and interaction with the environment - also used to inform behaviour in new situations

Q

cognitive neuroscience definition

A

aims to combine assumption of the cognitiveand biological approaches in order to create a map of the brain + identify which areas are responsible for certain cognitive functions - studied mainly through scans e.g. FMRI + involves p being presented with a series of tasks to identify brain area activated - can be used to identify neuroanatomical differences that may be responsible for some mental disorders - use of computer generated models have led to brain fingerprinting to see if EWT are lying

Q

cognitive neuroscience evaluations

A
    • employs a range of clinical, scientific methods to establish links between the brain and cognition = reliable
    • brain imaging techniques are not infallible - FMRI scans can be affected by potential errors in calibration e.g. light/sound (external factors) e.g. less reliable and dont give a valid picture of brain - found 70% error
  • real-life application e.g. brain fingerprinting for EWT + developing our knowledge
