Q

Cognitive approach

Explain the computer model

A

Model for Internal mental processes (perception, decisions, memory, attention), not easily observable

Human computer analogy: inputs -> processes -> outputs
stimulus -> thought -> behavioural response

Leading towards robots, artificial intelligence, removes idea of emotion and environment

Q

Negatives of cognitive approach

A
  • Mostly lab research (brain scans) which lack ecological validity
  • Computer model is computer reductionist, removes human ideas of emotion and environment

Q

Discuss the Schema in cognitive psychology

A

Schemas are a model used to describe and understand the human brain. It states that your brain contains an internal package of information. This package begins, when you are a child, as a child with only basic ideas, and it gradually develops to become more sophisticated as a person learns more about the world. This information enables a person to interpret their environment and large information packages quickly. However, this could be seen as a disadvantage as people may incorrectly interpret life situations and their environment.
