Cog Practical Flashcards
what was the aim of the cognitive practical?
to investigate whether the use of schemas are effective in remembering information accurately and quantitatively
what was the sample for the cognitive practical? how were they recruited? (4)
20 psychology students
- 10 males
- 10 females
- opportunity sampling
what was the procedure? (3) +2ao1 points

what were the results of the cognitive practical? (3 for each condition)
titled paragraph- 6,15,25 words remembered
no title-25,15,16
what was the non-directional (two-tailed) hypothesis?
the ppts with a schema (title) will affect their recall of words compared to the non-schema group
what was the directional (one-tailed) hypothesis?
group 1 (titled) will remember more words than group 2 (no title)
what was the null hypothesis?
there will be no difference between the words remembered in group 1 and group 2
what could improve the experiment?
- bigger sample
- more controls- measure amount of sleep ppts had the night before -distractions in the room
what was the conclusion of the practical?
schemas don’t help or improve the ability to remember things accurately
