What is Code 3 driving?
A police tactic used in responding to an emergency that emphasizes good judgment, communication, and coordination

What does Code 1 indicate?

What is the purpose of Code 2?
Non-Emergency response using lights only, for specific situations
Examples include stopping violators or signaling traffic hazards.
When may officers use Code 2?
In the following situations:
* To stop violators
* When arriving in an area where sirens could signal suspects
* To signal motorists of traffic hazards
* During authorized motorcades with sergeant approval
What does Code 3 allow for in terms of speed?
Emergency lights and siren driving may exceed the posted speed limit by no more than 20 mph
In pursuit driving, this limit is removed.
Under what circumstances can officers respond Code 3?
When:
* There is imminent danger to citizens
* An officer needs assistance
* Reliable information of a felony is present
Who is authorized to use Code 3?
Only commissioned personnel

Must also proceed safely.
What is the role of the first and second arriving units during Code 3?
Broadcast arrival status and determine the need for continued Code 3 response
They advise other units accordingly.
What should additional units do before proceeding Code 3?
Activate the Code 3 button on the MDT to advise of their response and arrival status
Must not break Code Red on the radio channel.
What is the responsibility of field supervisors during Code 3 responses?
Monitor radio channels for adherence to policy and direct Code 3 responses as warranted
They can cancel responses if necessary.
