Coasts 2B.1c Flashcards
What kind of coastline is the North Antrim Coast?
Rocky
How has volcanism shaped the North Antrim Coast?
Slow cooling molten basalt erupted approximately 56-62 million years ago
How has the basalt protected the coastline?
It covered the softer sedimentary rock underneath
How are igneous rocks formed?
Formed as molten rock cools and solidifies
How is sedimentary rock formed?
Composed of particles or pieces of other rocks being layered over time.
Animals and plants can contribute to sediment particles deposited in layers known as beds and is eventually consolidated into rocks
How are metamorphic rocks formed?
They are subject to high temperature and pressure
What are the general exceptions of the rate of erosion?
The older the rock is, the more resistant it is to erosion
