coagulopathy Flashcards
What are the two phases of DIC
- hypercoagulable- form widepsread thromboses & organ dysfunction
- consumption phase- widespread bleeding
Why can pancreatitis cause DIC?
trypsin released- activate coagulation factors
What is the term to describe seeing shistocytes, spherocytes, keratocytes, and acanthocytes in DIC in the blood?
microangiopathic hemolytic anemia
flying in DIC formation
thrombocytopenia
anemia (fragmentation hemolysis)
schistocytes, acanthocytes, keratocytes, low # spherocytes
decreased fibrinogen
hemostatic tests depend on phase
increased FDP
decreased AT3
What test could you use to detect DIC early?
TEG
What two toxins can cause vit K antagonism/def?
rodenticides (warfarin, brodifacoum, bromadiolone)
moldy sweet clover (dicumarol)
When do we consider an dog symptomatic for vWD?
<35% conc. vWF
What are the types of vWD?
Type 1- all multimers but decreased (doberman_
Type 2- largest multimer def (german pointer)
Type 3- def in all multimers (ST, shelties, CBR, DK)
diagnostic findings of vWD?
prolong BMBT
platelet type bleeding
normal platelet count
PTT prolong in horses but not dogs
PT normal
