CNS Neurotransmitters Flashcards
1
Q
What are the criteria for accepting a substance as a transmitter?
A
- synthesised in neuron and the enzymes are present in the neuron
- released in sufficient quantity to elicit a response
- removal or inactivation must exist
- mimic action of endogenously released neuro-trans when administered exogenously
2
Q
What are the 2 types of neurotransmitter receptors?
A
Ligand-gated ion channels and metabotropic (G-protein coupled receptors) intracellular
3
Q
What are the 3 methods of clearing a neurotransmitter?
A
Diffusion, reuptake and degradation
