Brain Abscess
-T. solium (pork tapeworm) -Fecal contamination -Sz, HA, focal neuro deficits, altered cognition, psychiatric dz -CT/MR, CSF -Albendazole, steroids
Cysticercosis
-Infection of meninigies. Hematogenous spread. -Acute: bacterial (S. penumo or N. meningitides) or viral(aseptic) (coxsackle or HSV) Subacute: Myobacterium TB & fungi, cryptococcus -Fever, HA, Stiff neck, photophobia -LP -Ceftriaxone & vanco
Meningitis
-Infx of brain parenchyma. Predominately viral (HSV, WNV, rabies) -AMS, HA, fever, Sz, neuro deficits, -Non-con CT; PCR of CSF -Acyclovir
