Basic Science Flashcards
Stroke foot–>toes spread, plantar flex of big toe.
Upper motor neuron lesion, corticospinal damage
Babinski
Axial and limb motor tract
Corticospinal tract
Over reactive reflexes
Hyperreflexia
Increased excitability of muslce spindles, and consequently reflexes
Hypertonia
Decreased muscle excitability, and consequently reflexes
Hypotonia
Contains ascending and descending axons. Fibers going to and from cerebral cortex
Internal capsule
Contains fibers that control fine motor mov’t of limbs
Lateral corticospinal tract
Weakness of voluntary mov’t
Paresis
Pre-motor cortex
Within frontal lobe.
Trunk muscles
Doral portion of frontal lobe. Excecuation of mov’t. Gyrus arrangement. Anterior to sulcus
Primary motor cortex
Located in brainstem. Location of corticospinal axon descussation
Pyramids
Found in brainstem. Plays role in arousal and consciousness
Reticular formation
“tightness,” “stiffness,” hypertonia
spasticity
Anterior horn of spinal cord (gray) contains motor neurons affecting axial muslces
Ventral horn of spinal cord
cranial nuclei for vestibular nerve
vestibular nuclei
