CNS Flashcards
Motor neurone
Carries nerve impulses from the relay neurone to the effector organs
Stimulus
Changes in the environment around you, examples include light and sound
Receptor
Cells that detects changes in the environment and the world around us. They get converted into an impulse (message) Cells that clustered together
CNS
The central nervous system, or CNS, is made up of the brain and spinal cord
Effector
Thes are organs, such as a muscle, which respond to impulses sent by the motor neurone
Sensory neurone
Carries nerve impulses from the sense organs to the central nervous system
Synapse
This is the gap between two nerves
Neurotransmitter
Chemicals that travel across the synapse bring the impulse
Neurone
a specialized cell transmitting nerve impulses
Reflex Action
An action that bypasses the CNS in order to make fast responses to harmful stimuli
The order of the nervous system
