Can a veteran’s school standing or grades be released in regards to a FOIA request?
NO. Education history can be released, however.

What is it called when you release the wrong information to the wrong individual?
Erroneous Disclosure.
Does a routine user require the veteran’s consent to access their record?
No.
If you are curious about a friend or relative’s history in the military, can you look up their record?
Absolutely not. We are in a need to know basis for all military records. Only access an individual’s record upon request in your professional capacity.
What should you do if a requester wants information that is protected under the Privacy Act?
Send FOIA-able information and inform them of what needs further authorization for release.
Where should you check if a request comes from a government office or law enforcement?
Routine Uses in NPRC 1865.16C.

Do media requests count as routine use?
No, they are a non-routine use and only have access to FOIA-able information.
What is an SF 180?
A Request Pertaining to Military Records. Often, this is the form we will review in CMRS when responding to a request.
When copying a record, what equipment should you use?
A flatbed scanner, and NEVER a feeder scanner.
If you are responding to a request requiring an NA Form 13038, and you find a previous NA Form 13038 in their record, what should you do?
Complete a new NA Form 13038 using the most up-to-date information. A previous NA Form 13038 could be incorrect or possess information that has since been updated.
