What is 4.4 Duty of Respect?

Respect is how we honor the absolute dignity of every person. We must show high regard for ourselves, others, reputation, safety, financial, and other resources entrusted to us.

An environment of respect engenders trust, confidence, and performance excellence by fostering mutual cooperation, supporting an environment where perspectives and views are encouraged and valued.

What are the tenants of duty of respect?

• Informing ourselves about others norms and customs, refrain from disrespectful behaviors
• Listen to others’ points of view, and seek to understand
• Be direct with those that we have a conflict/disagreement
• Be professional even when it is not reciprocated
• Treat others with dignity and expect the same of our colleagues
• Act with compassion and sensitivity to the feelings/needs of others
• Negotiate in good faith
• Refrain from using our expertise to influence the decisions/actions of others
• Refrain from acting abusive toward others
• Respect the property rights of others
