define cluster headache?
A
a neurological disorder characterised by recurrent, severe headaches on one side of the head typically around the eye, tending occur in clusters lasting several weeks.

risk factors?
A
- Genetic factor implicated
- More common in smokers
- Alcohol can be a trigger
- There is a relation to nocturnal sleep

epidemiology of cluster headaches?
A
- More common in MEN (3:1)
* Usually occurs between 20-40 yrs

presenting symptoms of cluster headaches?
A
- episode lasting 15 mins to 2 hours
- Clusters typically last 4-12 weeks
- There is an intense stabbing pain around one eye
- It is associated with redness lacrimation and lid swelling
- Miosis and ptosis can occur
- Often the patient will pace around

investigations for cluster headaches?
A
- CLINICAL diagnosis based on history
* Neurological examination may be useful
