Q

That’s because of your trust issues.

A

Oh , and whose fault is that? After living with you, does it shock you that I have trust issues? It’s surprising I ever leave the house after what you’ve put me through.

19
Q

one had been moonlightin as a rodeo clown and-

A

I’ve always known.

20
Q

Come again?

A

I said, I’ve always lmpwm.

21
Q

Of course she knew.

A

How could I not. That’s how we met. Remember.
You were pilling out of the trunk of that compact car. There were nineteen other clows with you, but for me, there was just one. Those other clowns, they might as well not have even existed. They could go on honking their horns and somersaulting around that ring, but it didn’t matter. They were nothing to me. You were the clown that I was watching. The only clown. I couldn’t keep my eyes off of you. I remember it like it was yesterday. That red nose, that bright blue hair.
I knew at that moment, he was the clown for me.

22
Q

You knew he was a clown?

A

It was love at first sight. And then, every time we met, he would make me fall in love him just a little bit more. That water squirting flower on his lapel. The way he would start juggling random objects- and inevitably drop them all- just to have them bounce right back up in the air. And the way every time he tried to tie his tie, it would grow longer and longer until he was totally wrapped up in it. That’s the man I fell in love with. That’s the man I thought I knew.

23
Q

I guess I’m a little confused then.

A

He’s a fraud.

24
Q

I’m not a fraud.

A

Yes you are. You lied to me.

25
Q

I understand that, but I just want to set the record straight. I did not lie.

A

Omission Frank. That’s still lying.
That’s still lying, right?

26
Q

Maggie, could you please explain what is it Frank…ommited.

A

He’s not really a clown.

27
Q

That’s not true.

A

Yes it is.

28
Q

I’m a clown, okay, I am a clown.

A

No, not really. Not underneath all that.

29
Q

Yes Maggie, what is your definition of clown?

A

I thought he was…you know…a real clown.

30
Q

A real clown?

A

Not just dressed up like a clown, but actually…you know, for real. How many years has he lead me to believe that this nose…this beautiful round, red nose … it’s not really his, you know. It comes off.

31
Q

Ow. That hurt.

A

Not as much as you’ve hurt me.

32
Q

So, the nose is fake. And this came as a shock?

A

It’s not just the nose. The hair too. This beautiful bushel of bright blue hair. It’s a wig. A wig!

33
Q

Leave my hair alone.

A

Why? Are you ashamed to expose who you really are?

34
Q

Just leave it alone!

A

No! I want her to see. See how you’ve been deceiving me!

35
Q

That’s just great.

A

And the worst, the absolutely worst discovery…his feet aren’t really that big.

36
Q

You thought my real foot made that noise? Is that what you really thought?

A

Okay, so I was naive. You were my first love Frank. What did I know? It’s not like I’d had other clowns before you. You were the first one…and I thought you were the real thing. And then to wake up one morning and find out that I was all…all just a sham, a lie. A disguise! You know how violated I feel? How dirty. Used. Like I’d been sleeping with a stranger all these years. How can I trust anything, anyone! It’s like everything I’ve ever believed in was a complete and total lie. How can I even go on anymore? I…I don’t know if I can. How can I go on living if everything I’ve ever believed in doesn’t exist? How can I go on? I just want to die! I just want to end it all!

37
Q

Maggie, please!

A

No, I just want to die! I just want to die!

38
Q

Put the gun down Maggie.

A

I can’t! I can’t go on!

39
Q

MAGGIE!!! NOOOO!!

A

Why? WHY, WHY, WHY?!?!?

40
Q

I…I never knew. I never…

A

Why Frank? Why?

41
Q

I never knew you felt this way.

A

How can we go on?

42
Q

I love you Maggie.

A

I thought I loved you too, but I don’t know who you are.

43
Q

But you do know me Maggie. This wig, that nose, these shooes…they might not be real, but it’s who I am.

44
Q

I…I think we might have made what, in my profession, we call a breakthrough.

A

Can you give me some clown Frank?

45
Q

Right now?

A

Yeah Frank. Right here. I need some clown.

46
Q

Are you sure? You want some clown? Right here? Right now?

47
Q

You got it babe!

A

Oh yeah! OH BABY YEAH!!
Yes! YES! Give it to me!
That’s it. Oh yeah! That’s it!
Oh Frank! Yes. Yes! YES!
