Cloud Storage Flashcards
What is cloud storage
It is the long term secondary storage of data in a remote location that can only be accessed using a Wide Area Network (WAN) like the Internet.
What are some examples of remote servers
SSD - Solid State Drive ( Faster and Better)
HDD - Hard Disk Drive
What are the three types of cloud storage
- Private Cloud
- Public Cloud
- Hybrid Cloud
Describe the public cloud
Description: Services and resources are provided by third-party providers over the Internet,
Examples: Google Drive, Dropbox, Microsoft OneDrive.
Cost: Generally low; many providers offer free tiers with paid options based on storage capacity.
Access: Accessible from any device with an internet connection.
Describe the private cloud
Description : Cloud Infrastructure dedicated to a single organization
Access : Restricted to the organization’s users
Cost: More expensive due to hardware and maintenance costs, but offers more security and control
Describe the hyrbid cloud
Combines both public and private cloud, allowing data to be shared between them
Access: Flexible to both environments. Public clouds can be usedfor less sensitive operations while keepng critical data in a private cloud
Cost: Balances cost and control.
Advantages of cloud storage
- Data can be accessed from anywhere
- Data can be accessed by anyone with the relevant permissions, making it quick to share files and collaborate with others
- Data can be accessed on any device with an internet connection
- Providers often use multiple servers to store and backup data, reducing the risk of data loss due to hardware failure
- Allows customers to increase or decrease their storage capacity as needed
Disadvantages of cloud storage
- A stable internet connection is required to use cloud storage
- Storing data in the cloud may be vulnerable to security breaches
- The user is dependent on the storage provider for the availability and reliability of its services
- Should the company dissolve or cease to exist, all cloud data may be lost
- As the amount of storage or bandwidth required increases, the service may become expensive over time
