Cloud Computing Flashcards
Definition of cloud computing
A model for enabling ubiquitous, convenient, OnDemand network access to a shared pool of configurable computing resources that can be rapidly provisioned and released with minimal management effort or service provider interaction.
Examples for cloud computing
Netflix. WhatsApp. Google docs.
Three properties of cloud computing
Dynamically scalable. Device independent. Task centric.
SaaS, PaaS, IaaS
All involve cloud vendor’s supplying servers on which their customers can store data and run applications. However, there are differences in the level of control provided to the customer, as well as the type of cloud hardware on which the customers cloud applications are run
SaaS
Means that they can only run those applications that their cloud supplier has on offer
PaaS
Means that they can create their own applications but only in a manner determined by the cloud supplier
IaaS
Means they can run any applications they please on cloud hardware of their own choice
Benefits of cloud computing
Cost savings. Device independent. Simplicity. Scalability.
Cloud computing will become inevitable
Cloud computing will become essential for firms that wish to remain competitive. Cloud computering is more green due to the fact that most internal company data centres when the servers at around 30% capacity in contest the servers in large data cloud centres typically run at 80% capacity or more
