A
- sudden onset of lameness
- pyrexia
- depression
- swollen limb which is initially warm then becomes cold
- death occurs in 12-36h
- animals often found dead

A
- PM to confirm
- affected tissue has characteristic dark purple colour and rancid odou
- oedema, gas or emphysema can also be present

A
- Clostridia perfringens type D

Who gets pulpy kidney?
A
- bacterium is a commensal of the GIT
- it proliferates in animals up to 2y/o
- mainly affects lambs
- calves, sheep & goats can also be affected

- C. septicum

Braxy aetiology
A
- bacteria normally found in gut & soil
- can proliferate in animals fed autumn forage crops or roots that have been frosted
- dz suspected to be due to frost damage to the lining of the abomasum, allowing the organism to grow and produce toxin
