Closed and open packed positions of common joints Flashcards
Facet (spine)
Close-packed: Extension
Open packed: Midway between flexion and extension
Temporomandibular
Close-packed: Clenched teeth
Open Packed: Mouth slightly open
Acromioclavicular
Close packed: Arm abducted to 90 degrees
Open: arm resting by the side in anatomical position
Glenohumeral
Close-packed: Abduction and lateral rotation
Open: 55 degrees abduction and 30 degrees horizontal adduction
Humeroulnar (elbow)
Close-packed: Etension
Open: 70 degrees flexion, 10 degrees supination
Humeroradial
Closed-packed: elbow flexed 90 degrees, forearm supinated 5 degrees.
Open: full elbow extension and supination.
Proximal radioulnar
Closed-packed: 5 degrees of supination
Open: 70 degrees of flexion, 35 degrees supination (confusing to me because I thought this joint was just supination and pronation.)
Radiocarpal
Close-packed: extension with ulnar deviation
Open: Neutral with slight ulnar deviation
carpometacarpal (thumb)
Closed-packed: full opposition
Open: Midway between adduction and abduction and flexion/extension
Metacarpophalangeal
Closed: full flexion
Open: slight flexion
Metacarpophalangeal (thumb)
Closed: full flexion
Open: slight flexion
Interphalangeal
closed: full flexion
Open: slight flexion
Hip
Closed-packed: full extension and medial rotation
Open: 10-30 degrees of flexion, 10-30 degrees abduction, and slight 0-5 degrees of lateral rotation.
Knee
closed: full extension and lateral rotation of tibia
Open: 25 degrees of flexion
Talocrural (ankle)
Closed; maximum dorsiflexion
open: 10 degrees of plantar flexion, midway between maximum inversion and eversion
