CLL--Krafts Flashcards
BM transplants in lymphoproliferative disease
not an option malignancy remains in lymph nodes
CLL odd immunophenotype
B-cell, but CD5+
(usually in T-cells and immature B-cells)
CLL cells
small, mature lymphocytes
CLL prognostic tool
BM section
(diffuse involvement –> worse)
Immunophenotype of CLL
+ B-cell antigens
+ CD5
- TdT
2 lab findings in CLL
high WBC
hypogammaglobulinemia
Gene rearrangement of CLL
(commonly)
bcl-2
(normally prevents apoptosis–cells become “immortal”)
Hairy Cell Leukemia
physical exam finding
splenomegaly without lymphadenopathy
Hair Cell Leukemia
Blood Findings
pancytopenia
Hair Cell Leukemia
Stain
TRAP +
Hairy Cell Leukemia
men or women?
5: 1
men: women
Hairy cell leukemia
TRAP stain
Why don’t you get hairy cells out in peripheral blood in hair cell leukemia?
hairy cells make reticular fibers around themselves in the BM
Why do you get a pancytopenia in Hair Cell Leukemia?
reticular fibers made around hairy cells, makes it harder to get out of marrow
Immunophenotype for hairy cell leukemia
+ CD25, CD11c
