What order should the electrode colours be placed on the limbs?
“ride your green bike”
red yellow
green black
what order should the electrode colours be placed on the chest?
red, yellow, green, brown, black, purple
what do artifacts on an ECG mean?
the patient is moving
What might cause radio-radial delay?
Aortic dissection cervical rib pressing on one arm's subalavian artery emboli aortic aneurysm occlusion
What might be a sign of hypercholesterolaemia?
xanthelasma
Arcus senilis
Why would checking a patients dental hygiene be of benefit for a cardiovascular examination?
If a patient had poor dental health this increases their risk of developing infective endocarditis (which can infect valves of the heart)
If a patient appears sweaty what could this indicate?
Shock
MI (if they’re clammy and pale as well)
What does a JVP raised over 9cm indicate?
increased RA pressure
As a result of heart failure- mismatch of the fluid volume and the heart’s capacity to pump
How can you distinguish a JVP from a carotid pulse?
carotid= single pulse, can be palpated JVP= double pulse, cannot be palpated
