tends to be chronic with intervals between attacks
very painful, warm, red, swollen joints
osteochondritis dissecans OCD
painful knee, worse with activity
in adults or children
often from acute trauma or repetitive stress
diagnosed with imaging
mild effusion
most special tests are negative
acute compartment syndrome
rapid onset, out of proportion pain
recent history of blunt trauma, fracture, cast, surgery
6 Ps (pain, pressure)
palor, paresthesia, pulselessness, paralysis- if surgery not performed within 8 hours
peripheral arterial occlusive disease PAD
lower extremity pain, cramping, numbness, weakness, intermittent claudication
age >60
hx of heart disease
type 2 diabetes mellitus
hx smoking, sedentary
shiny LE skin, cold
decreased LE pulse
increased capillary refill
ankle brachial index <1
superficial vein thrombophlebitis
inflammation of superficial vein due to blood clot
pain in area of affected superficial veins
often recent trauma, surgery, inactivity
swelling, warmth, tenderness, hard red cord near skin surface
deep vein thrombosis
blood clot of deep vein
deep pain and cramping
inactivity, trauma, surgery
swelling, warmth, discoloration, tenderness
pulmonary embolism
sudden blockage of pulmonary arteries
shortness of breath, chest pain, discomfort with deep breathing or coughing
heart is racing, lightheadedness, dizziness, coughing up blood, recent trauma, surgery, inactivity
DVT wells score
paralysis, paresis, orthopedic casting
bedridden
tenderness
swelling of entire leg
pitting edema
collateral non varicose superficial veins
active cancer
anterior knee pain- patellar issues
subluxation/dislocation
patellofemoral pain syndrome
patellar tendinopathy
articular cartilage
osteoarthitis
anterior knee pain- tibial apophysitis
osgood- schlatters disease
enlarged tibial tuberosity
overuse- children 10-14yr
growth spurts
imaging reveals separation of patellar ligament on tibial tuberosity
