Metabolic acidosis

A

Normal anion gap:

  • GI bicarb losses (diarrhoea, fistulae)
  • Renal tubular acidosis
  • drugs (acetazolamide)
  • Ammonium chloride injection
  • addinsons

Increased Anion gap:

  • lactate - shock/hypoxia
  • ketones - DKA, alcohol
  • Urate (renal failure)
  • acid poisoning - salicylates, methanol
