Clin Lab: Testing I & II Flashcards
What are the major lipid components found in plasma?
Triglycerides, cholesterol, phospholipids
How are lipids transported?
via blood as lipoproteins
What are lipoproteins?
lipid complex + specialized PROs (apolipoproteins)
What do apolipoproteins do?
aid in solubilization of lipids and in transport of lips around body
Types of lipoproteins
- chylomicrons
- VLDLs
- IDLs
- LDLs
- HDLs
Example how lipoproteins are in the body.
In the system when ingested as food–> moves into lymphatic system–> venous system–> liver reprocessing–> repackage/release as VLDL/ HDL
Total cholesterol values
Triglyceride values
HDL values
LDL values
LDL number for DM pts
HDL & LDL fraction is measured, but how do you measure LDL if it is not given to you?
LDL = (total cholesterol) - (HDL) - (triglyceride/5)
What is included on a lipid panel?
Total cholesterol
Trigylcerides
HDL
LDL
VLDL
Non-HDL
LDL/HDL ratio or Chol/HDL ratio
What lab do we used to see who needs to be on a statin?
lipid panel
