What is significant about the logo?
It is green which has connotations of the environment.
What are some of the features of the webpage (6 in total)?

What impact does the picture have?
It proves that actions have an impact and that ice is melting.
What does the sidebar with links do?
It helps navigation.
What is the general tone of the piece?
It’s quite technical and semi-formal but it has contractions which narrow the gap between the author and the reader.
Describe the first few sentences.
The sentence is a point, it is short and sharp. the following sentence backs this up with evidence. It is a slippery slope argument.
What effect does the first paragraph have?
It is designed to scare the reader. “…could face extinction” is very final and pressuring. It is also pessimistic.
The entire text is emotive. What effect does this have?
It creates a sense of urgency e.g “people are dying”
“But catastrophic climate change isn’t inevitable” —–> opening sentence of second paragraph
This conveys a sense of hope and that there is still a chance.
What effect does “we know” have?
It implies that everyone should know.
What is the general effect of the second paragraph?
It is optimistic and has the feeling of empowerment.
The phrases in green are glossed. What effect does this have?
It leaves room for more information and allows people of all intellect to understand.
What impact does the word “dependence” have?
It implies that we rely too much on fossil fuels and that we shouldn’t do so.
What does the reader ask themselves after reading the sentence describing technology that could reduce the amount of fossil fuels we use?
Why aren’t we using it?
What does “If we” imply?
It implies that everyone is involved and that it is a group effort.
