Q
Reasons for these cliffs being prone to collapse
A
- Rocks are weak sands and clays which are easily eroded
- Permeable rock lays on top of impermeable rock which causes water to ‘pond up’ between layers and makes rock heavier
- Area gets the prevailing south-westerly winds
- Several small streams run toward the coast but then disappear into permeable rock
- New buildings increase weight on rock and interfere with drainage
