What is a Cleft Palate?

Cleft: opening in a normally closed structure (in these case the hard or soft palate)

What problems do clients with Cleft Palate present with?
A
- Vowel distortion
- Difficulty with pressure consonants
- Nasal emission, hypernasality
- Compensatory errors like glottal stops
- hoarseness
- middle ear dysfunction (Eustachian tube)
- Expressive/Receptive language gap
