Infectious

Inflammatory
Diseases that result from the body’s response to another disease process (primary disease).
Ischemic
Diseases due to diminished blood supply, depriving affected tissues of oxygen and essential energy substrates.
Metabolic
Diseases that result from a disturbance in the biochemical and metabolic processes within the body.
Nutritional
Diseases that result from a deficiency in one or all of the major nutritional sources.
Genetic
Diseases that are coded for in a person’s genetic material and thus are passed from parent to child.
Congenital
Diseases that result from problems that occur during fetal development.
Neoplastic
Diseases caused by abnormal or uncontrolled cell growth.
Trauma
Diseases caused by external forces that can mechanically change or disrupt the structure of the body and, as a result, affect body function.
Physical Agents
Diseases caused by chemicals, poisons, ionizing radiation, extremes in temperature, changes in atmospheric pressure, and electrical shock.
Iatrogenic
A disease that develops from the medical treatment of another disease.
Idiopathic
A disease with unknown origin.
