What are the 3 main uses of classification?
identify species - by using a clearly defined classification, the species of an organism can be identified easily
predict characteristics - if several members of a groups share characteristics, it is likely another species in the group will have to same characteristics
find evolutionary links - species in same groups probably share a common ancestor
What is the purpose of a single classification system?
scientists worldwide can share their research
links between organisms can easily be seen
