Clinical periodontal health as defined by Chapple
No CAL loss, most apical cell of JE still above CEJ
BOP <10%, no sulcular probing depth >3mm, no redness, no clinical swelling and inflammation clinically. But histologically see inflammatory infiltrate and host response consistent with homeostasis of tissues
Classify: BOP 4%, PPD all ≤4mm, no BOP at 4mm sites
Stable periodontitis patient
Drugs that can cause gingival enlargements
Calcium channel blockers eg anti hypertensive medication
Ani convulsants
Immunosuppressants
How to grade periodontitis
Percentage bone loss at most affected site after extraction of tooth with bone loss over age
<0.5% grade A (no risk factors)
0.5-1% grade B
>1% grade C
Always upgrade if possible
Grade c: target behavioural modification or medical collaboration
What is the time period a patient stays stable for in order to be classified as clinically healthy on reduced periodontium rather than “stable”
