Classes of Enzymes Flashcards
E.C. 1
name, and how to find it!
Oxidoreductases
-transfer electrons from one molecule to another molecule
(more H and/or less Os means reduced)
(can also look for participation of electron carriers, NADH/NAD+ etc)
E.C. 2
name, and how to find it!
Transferase
-transfer functional groups from one molecule to another (ex OH-, PO4-, SH, CH3 (sometimes in the name)
E.C. 3
name, and how to find it!
Hydrolases-
(hydrolyase not actual spelling, but helpful to remember) breaks covalent bond using water, water becomes incorporated into the molecule
SEE WATER THINK 3
E.C. 4
name, and how to find it!
Lyase
-breaking covalent bonds without water as a substrate
A-B -> A + B (look for breaking of molecule into two parts sans use of water)
E.C. 5
name, and how to find it!
Isomerase
-create isomers, transfer a functional group within a molecule
Ex. A-BOH-C -> A-B-COH (nothing coming in or out, just rearranging is isomerase’s work)
Even double bond trading
Or similar names (citrate to isocitrate)
5 ISOMERS, they can high five each other!
E.C. 6
name, and how to find it!
Ligase
-covalently join two molecules together
A+B -> AB
6 lying gays join things together
E.C. 7
name, and how to find it!
Translocase-
protein assisted movement of a molecule form one side of membrane to other where the facilitator exhibits high specificity for the molecule it transfers
7 moves stuff!
