class 3: AI vs. EFM Flashcards
what does the ductus venosis do
shunts blood from the umbilical vein to the IVC AND the portal vein (this goes to liver)
what does the foramen ovale do
shunts blood from RA to LA so it can bypass lungs
what does the ductus arteriosis do
shunts blood from lungs to aorta so blood can also bypass
what do the umbilical arteries do
carry blood from baby to mum to be filtered
what do baroreceptors do
respond to change in blood pressure and adjust HR so that cardiac output is good (low BP=high HR)
what do chemoreceptors do
detect change in O2 and CO2 and vasodilate and stuff
what is an abnormal finding for contraction stress test
Positive CST is basically when the FHR goes down during a contraction (bad)
what do you monitor with FHR to determine fetal health
contractions
what does an intrauterine pressure transducer monitor for
force of contractions internally
what does a tocodyameter monitor for
force of contractions externally
what does a spiral electrode monitor for
FHR internally
what does a doppler transducer monitor for
FHR externally
put it over the fetal back
how do we assess FHR IA
basically assesses HR value and also rhythm, only as regular or irregular
can you assess variability with IA
no
how do you assess contractions with IA
same for both IA and EFM
frequency
duration
intensity
resting tone
