Why do we focus on traits?
- descriptive
- explains behaviour
- predicting behaviour
Individual and Environment
Our traits are a reflection of how we are getting through the world.
Our personality influences us, and everything we have been through.
Perceptions
- Shapes how we see the world
- How we interact with the world
Selections
- what we choose to do
ex. selecting the environment that you want to spend your day in
Evocations
- the way that our personality can trigger a response in other people
Manipulations (more long term than evocations)
- our traits can causes changes in other peoples personality
- if we have enough interactions with someone we will start to shift in response
How do we analyze personality?
- group analysis
- individual
Human nature
- how are we all alike
- what connects all humans (possessed by our species)
Individual and group differences
- how are we similar to one another in a group but different from another
- how are we like some people
ex. introverted and extroverted
Individual uniqueness
- every single human is unique in their own way
ex. psychological assessments
Dispositional psychology
the ways individuals differ from one another (cognitively, biologically, or scientifically)

genetics, psychophysiological, and evolution
Genetics
- are we predisposed to certain personalities?
- how does our environment affect us?

Can we track our personalities through our bodily responses?
