A

A child applies the same word to all items within the same category e.g. may refer to all drinks as ‘milk’ because they’re in the same category

A

A child makes connections between items because they have similar characteristics e.g. may refer to socks, coat, tea-towel as ‘blank’ because of the fabric material

A

The use of a word is limited way which does not recognise full meaning e.g. will only refer to drink as ‘milk’ if it is coming out of a bottle, not if it is in a glass
