What does Bellugi (1966) suggest about the development of the use of negatives?
Three stages of the formation of negatives:
1 - Negative at the beginning of the sentence e.g. ‘No walk’
2 - The negative moves in the middle of the sentence e.g. ‘I no walk’
3 - It will become grammatically correct e.g. ‘I don’t want to walk’
What does Lewis and Ramsey (2004) suggest about the use of pronouns?
Pronoun development will depend upon the child’s sense of identity and contextual factors and suggested cognitive development has an impact on their grammatical accuracy
What does Bellugi (1966) suggest about the development of the use of pronouns?
Three stages:
1 - Will use own name instead pronoun
2 - Involves first person pronoun however do not follow grammatical ‘rules’
3 - Pronouns will be used accurately
