CKD Diagnosis and Staging Flashcards
the rate at which a certain event occurs
incidence
the total number of cases of a disease in a given population at a given time
Prevalence
How do we define CKD?
CKD is kidney damage for > 3 months, with or without decreased GFR as manifested by
- pathologic abnormalities-
- Markers of kidney damage
- blood or urine creatinine levels to measure kidney filtration
OR
- GFR<60 for more than 3 months with or without kidney damage

Stages of Kidney Disease= GFR
1= >90
2 = 60-89
3a = 45-59
3b = 30-44
4 = 15-29
5 = <15
what is thet best overall indicies of level of kidney function?
What does this take into account that a normal GFR does not?
Can GFR be estimated with changing Scr
eGFR (estimation of GFR)
the eGFR takes variables like age, gender, race, body size into account
NO! you can not use a changing serum creatinine to estimate GFR
What is the most accurate evaluation for patients with an almost normal GFR?
the CKD-Epi is the most accurate for patients with an almost normal GFR. It is also as accurate for patients with a GFR <60
When is a 24 hour urine more accurate than eGFR?
- Extremes:
- Age
- Weight
- Diet
- Amputated Limbs
- Determining the need to begin dialysis
- pregnancy
What are normal daily values for:
Total Protein
Albumin
What is the marker of kidney damage?
What are normal daily values for:
Total Protein <150 mg/day
Albumin <30 mg/day
Persistent elevation is the marker of kidney damage
