White opposition was eliminated along with support for the Whites from abroad. The Tsar and family were killed. Communist control in a one-party state was consolidated
During 1921-22 SR & Menshevik leaders were arrested or forced into exile. In 1921 5,000 men labelled as ‘counter-revolutionary Mensheviks’ were arrested. In 1922 34 prominent SR’s were put on trial in Moscow and 11 were executed

War Communism involved nationalisation of large firms and a state monopoly of markets. Also requisitioned Grain. Very unpopular and Lenin replaced it with the NEP (New Economic Policy), which denationalised small firms and allowed peasants to sell surplus products
