Circulatory System Flashcards
Capillaries
exchange materials within the blood -they are leaky on purpose Exhcange Nutrients -nutrients- leave -waste- moves in -oxygen -CO2
Atrium
blood gathers
Ventricles
thick walls, made out of muscle (job to pump)
Valve
prevent back flow of blood
Double Circulation
Body > Heart > Lung > Heart > Body (passes through heart 2 times)
Endothermic
4 chambered heart because we need more oxygen
Heartrate BPM
- your blood/heart is working against gravity
- Endothermic ^ bpm - needs more oxygen to burn fuel to gen. heat
- smaller the animal the faster the heartbeat (heart beats the same amount)
Layers of the Heart
Epicardium- outside cardium
Myocardium- middle made of muscles (majority of heart)
Endocardium- skin like layer on inside of heart lining chambers
Circulation (through chambers)
Systemic Circ. -Body to Heart
Pulmonary Circ. -Heart to Lungs
Systemic Circ.
Coronary- heart chamber to heart tissue
Renal- heart to kidneys and back to heart
Hepatic- Heart to liver back to heart
Bloodvessels
- Arteries
- Veins
- Capillaries
- Valves
Arteries
more pressure, carry blood away from heart, smaller diameter, thick wall, elastic
Veins
Less pressure, carry blood to the herat, larger diameter, thinner wall
Capillaries
Small (very), only one blood cell can go through at a time, exchange occur, oxygen with CO2 and Nutrients w/ waste are exchange, leaky
Valves
- Cuspid- between atrium and ventricles
- Semilunar- between ventricles and artery
- Veins- valves in veins prevent blood from going backwards
