CIRCULATORY SYSTEM Flashcards
What are the 3 functions of the circulatory
Deliver nutrients, transport oxygen, remove waste
What is the job of the right side of the heart
Receives oxygen poor blood and gives it to the lungs
What is the job of the left side of the heart
Pumps oxygen rich blood to the body
What are the names given to the top chambers of the heart
Right and left atrium
What are the names given to the bottom chambers of the heart
Right and left ventricles
What is the functions of arteries
Takes oxygen rich blood away from the heart
What are the functions of the veins
Bring blood back to the heart
How are veins and arteries different in structure
Arteries- carry blood away, thicker
Veins- Thin valves that carry blood toward the heart
What are capillaries
Tiny blood cells that allow diffusion to occur
What makes capillaries so efficient in the exchange of gases and nutrients
They are narrow and thin, easy for gas exchange
What are the four parts to blood and what is the function of each
Red blood cells- Carry oxygen, remove carbon dioxide
White blood cells- Fight infections
Platelets- Blood clotting
Plasma- Carry nutrients, liquid part of the blood
