Circulation Flashcards
Ventilation
Taking in oxygen through inspiration
Circulation system purpose
Deliver O2 to the mitochondria for ATP production and remove CO2 waste
Open circulatory system
Heart pushes liquid through the body and fluids are not contained in veins or arteries
Closed circulatory system
Found in vertebrates where blood is pushed by the heart through a closed tubular system
Capillaries
Thinly walled veins that allow for gas exchange
Arteries
Take blood away from the heart
Veins
take blood to the heart
Mammal circuit
- Blood enters the heart throught the vena cava
- Blood is pushed into the artium
- The tricuspid valve opens so blood flows into the right ventricle
- BLood is pushed up the pulmonary arteries into the lungs
- blood reterns through the pulmonary veins into the left artium
- The bicuspid valve opens so the blood flows into the left ventricle
- blood leaves through the aorta
Rate of diffusion
depends on the concentration difference
Partial pressure
the pressure of oxygen
Flicks Law
Equation for the rate of diffusion of oxygen
Hemoglobin
the molecule that carries oxygen in the blood
Bohr shift
saturation curve shift to accommodate for more acidic blood and give more oxygen
