Circular Motion Flashcards
1
Q
What unit is used as a measurement of an angle in circular motion
A
Radians
2
Q
What is centripetal force
A
A force that keeps a body moving with a uniform speed along a circular path
3
Q
What causes an object to travel in a circular path
A
A constant net force perpendicular to the velocity of an object
4
Q
Define angular velocity
A
The rate of change of angle (radians)
5
Q
Why does an object accelerate when in has constant velocity in circular motion
A
As there is a constant change in velocity
6
Q
How to investigate circular motion
A
- Swirl a bung in a circle trying to keep the radius of the circle the same
- Measure the radius of the circle using a metre rule
- Measure the time for 10 revolutions then calculate the time for 1 revolution
- Do 3 repeats
- Vary the suspended mass
7
Q
Why does the speed of a object remains constant when in circular motion even though there is a resultant force
A
- The resultant force is acting perpendicularly to velocity
- So there is no work done by the resultant force so velocity remains constant
