Chronic inflammatory features:
Panos,hyperplasia, fibrosis, erosion of articular cartilage
Which 3 cell types are most commonly seen in chronic inflammatory infiltrate? What are their functions?
Lymphocytes- B cells differentiate into antibiotics, T control and produce some cytotoxins
Macrophages- phagocytosis, synthesis of cytokines, antigen presenting, cellular control
Plasma cells-differentiate B cells-producing a single type of antibody (v specific)
In what ethnicity is sarcoidosis more prevelant?
Afro-caribbean
How might you distinguish between sarcoidosis and TB?
Tests:
PCR- look for DNA
Culture tissue- identify microbacteria
Biopsy of lymph node
What 2 things will be high in the blood test of someone with sarcoidosis?
