21
Q

A

Loperamide

22
Q

Irritable bowel syndrome: treatment (antimuscarinic)

A
  • Hyoscine butylbromide
  • Propantheline bromide
23
Q

Short bowel syndrome

A

intestinal failure after large surgical resection

24
Q

Short bowel syndrome: symptoms

A
  • Malnutrition
  • Diarrhoea
  • Poor drug absorption
25
Q

Short bowel syndrome: treatment

A
  • Deficiency: vitamin + mineral supplements
  • Diarrhoea: loperamide

Poor absorption, patients need:

  • Higher dose/IV: warfarin, oral contraceptives, digoxin
  • Avoid: EC + MR (designed to dissolve in small intestines)
  • Use uncoated + soluble tablets + liquids instead
