Chromosome, Genes and DNA Flashcards
- How are heritable characteristics passed on to the next generation?
Traits of the offspring is determined by genes found on the chromosomes. Additionally dominant and recessive genes can determine factors within the offspring.
- Explain the relationship between DNA, genes, chromosomes, traits, genotypes and phenotype?
Chromosomes are homologues pairs which hold DNA containing genes from both parents. Since chromosomes are homologous pairs this means it is made up of pairs of 23 chromosomes come from both parents which combine to make 46 chromosomes
- How many chromosomes are there in each human body cell?
Each Cell usually contains 46 chromosomes with 23pairs of chromosomes from both the mother and farther
- What is the difference between genotype and phenotype?
The genes vs the physical appearance.
What are proteins
Proteins are genes which are used to be coded specifically and are made of amino acids in the ribosome by condons from TRNA.
What is a gene?
A gene is a segment of DNA holding the genetic information which DNA is responsible for the construction of proteins.
