Dickens represents Christmas as a time which is meant to be spent being genourous and forgiving and should be spent enjoying yourself

Fred tells Scrooge what Christmas is meant to be about however Scrooge doesn’t listen to him and ignores Fred
“He begged like a boy to be allowed to stay”
Scrooge see how much fun his family’s Christmas party is and really wants to join in with them and enjoy the party but can’t because he isn’t actually there.

Dickens shows how the joy you feel at Christmas isn’t affected by how much money you have but is about Christmas spirit
“The ghost a Christmas present blessed his four room house”
The ghost of Christmas present blesses the people who are in need of it
“There was nothing very cheerful yet there was an air of cheerfulness”
Shows that Christmas spirit is not affected by what’s in the house but the people inside the house. This shows a Victorian reader that they don’t need to be rich to have a good Christmas and that to be happy at Christmas they just need to spend the time with your family or friends instead of alone like Scrooge otherwise you won’t have a good Christmas.

Dickens shows how Scrooges opinions about Christmas change throughout the novel
“A poor excuse of picking a man’s pocket”
Scrooge only sees Christmas as a waste of money and now about what it stands for
“I will honour Christmas in my heart”
At the end of the stave Scrooge understands what Christmas means to those around him and tries to honour that in his heart
Dickens message
Dickens message about Christmas is that it is a time for family’s to come together and enjoy themselves no matter how poor or rich they are.
