liturgical - worship according to a set pattern on a regular basis
non-liturgical - less formal and does not follow a set pattern, can involve unscripted or improvised
Purpose of Christian pilgrimage
- think about the sacrifice Jesus made
- visit areas with spiritual, religious or historical significance
- meditate and prayer
Christmas
- celebrates incarnation and birth off Jesus
- cards and presents given, decorated, special church services
- meaning of Christmas - helping others and sharing
- Advent marks the countdown to Christmas (candles)
Easter
- remembers the crucifixion and celebrates the resurrection of Jesus
- special services are held
- faith in eternal life
- Holy Week is the final week leading to easter
Missionary
a person who is ent on a religious mission to promote Christianity (local communities and across the world)
Evangelical work
spreading faith by missionaries
role and importance of the church in local community
- unite the local community
- provides support and comfort when needed
- advice from sources of authority e.g. minister or vicar
- gives identity and belonging to people in a community
How local church community helps
- centre of christian identity, organises event s to bring people together
- ecumenism, breaking down barriers between different christian denominations
- outreach work, volunteering in positions involving going into the local community
- worship through living practices, celebrating special events
Importance of the worldwide church
- givres global identity to christians
- promoted unity
- provides support when needed
- shows how christian teachings can be out to work globally
Christian teachings about charity
- teaches compassion and treating others fairly ‘love your neighbour as yourself’ (Mark 12:31)
- helping others
- equality ‘God crated mankind in his own image’
