Four reasons against:
- Destroys your body
- Does not allow you to be close to God
- Heaven

+ Miracles
Jesus approved of drinking of wine as He performed a miracle turning water in to wine.
‘water … had been turned in to wine’ (John 2)
+ Sacrament
Important part of the Holy Sacrament of Communion and so allows Christians to be close to God. At Mass, wine is turned in to the blood of Christ and drunk.
+ Moderation
Alcohol in moderation is acceptable.
‘Do not drink water only, but take a little wine’ (Timothy 5)
+ Jesus
Last drink was wine, he encouraged it.
‘wine … was … lifted … to Jesus’ lips.’ (John 19)
- Destroys your body
‘your body is the Temple of the Holy Spirit … You do not belong to yourself, but to God’ (1 Corinthians 6)
- Does not allow you to be close to God
‘Do not get drunk with wine, which will ruin you, but instead be filled with the Holy Spirit’ (1 Corinthians 6)
Do not need alcohol, stops you being close to God (Holy Spirit)
- Heaven
‘drunkards … will not inherit the kingdom of God.’ wrong as stops you from going to heaven showing God does not approve.
- Shameful
‘Noah’s drunkenness brought shame to his family’ (Genesis 9)
