Christ, Christology
“Christ” is the equivalent of the Hebrew term Messiah and means “annointed one.” Christology is the theological study answering: Who is Jesus? and What is the nature and significance about what Jesus accomplished in the incarnation?
Christocentrism
The intentional or unintentional situating of Jesus Christ as the central or dominant theme of Christian theology
Church
A word generally used to translate the generic Greek word ekklēsia, which variously means “gathering,” “assembly” or “congregation.” However, the NT tends to use the word to refer to all those who have faith in the person and work of Christ
Coherence theory of truth
A theory of knowledge that asserts that a given proposition or statement is true when it is consistent within a larger set of propositions also taken to be true.
communion
Generally, a term most closely related to the biblical idea of fellowship (koinōnia): the fellowship persons have with God or fellowship persons with one another. Also is used in reference to the Lord’s Supper
Compatibilism
The theory that human free will is consistent/compatible with God’s sovereign prerogative to determine or will all things that are to happen
concurrence
A term referring to any theory that attempts to define the relationship between the divine sovereignty of God and the free actions and responsibilities of created human beings
confession
A biblical concept which means “to say the same thing” or “to agree” in at least three senses:
- to acknowledge the greatness of God in praise and worship
- To acknowledge and repudiate sin
- To verbalize basic doctrinal commitments
confirmation
Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy traditions that give a special grace to the child, enabling growth in the faith.
Congregationalism
A system of church government that assumes that Christ’s authority comes directly to the local congregation.
