Apostasy
A biblical concept that generally refers to those who fall away from belief in God
Apostle, apostolicity
From his many followers Christ chose twelve whom he designated as “apostles,” along with the apostle Paul as one “abnormally born.”
Appropriation
A general term used in theology to speak of the integration or application of an aspect of the Christian belief system into Christian practice. Living what you say you believe and applying that to your life.
Aquinas, Thomas
Medieval Italian theologian, Aquinas’s greatest influence is found in his Summa Theologica. One of his more famous contributions was a thorough discussion of the Five Ways (proofs) for the existence of God
Arminianism, Arminius
James Arminius developed a system of theology in response to Lutheran Calvanism, stating that salvation can be freely chosen and freely lost unlike the doctrine of Calvinistic predestination.
Ascension
When CHrist had finished his earthly ministry, he entered the presence of the Father and ascended on high.
Asceticism
The teaching that spirituality is attained through renunciation of physical pleasures and personal desires while concentrating on “spiritual” matters
