Chpt. 8 - Discriminative Training Flashcards
Stimulus discrimination
The tendency for behavior to have different frequencies in different situations.
Outfit presentation for class vs. job interview
Discriminative Stimulus
Any event in the presence of which a target behavior is likely to have consequences that affect its frequency
sD
An event in the presence of which the target behavior is reinforced.
Ess Delta🔺
An event in the presence of which the target behavior is not reinforced.
sD vs S🔺
sD: Indicates a high probability of reinforcement of the target behavior.
S🔺: Indicates a low probability of reinforcement of the behavior.
sDs are correlated with reinforcement: S🔺 are correlated with extinction punishment
sD: Operant behavior:
8+3 = is an sD for saying “eleven”
Discriminative Training:
Any procedure that results in a target behavior having different frequencies in different situations.
It involves reinforcing a behavior in the presence of an sad.
Simultaneously Discriminative Training
A person is presented with a choice.
Presented a banana and apple to a kid and then say “point to banana.”
Successive Discrimination Training
The discriminative stimuli are presented one after the other.
Apple first, then ask what’s this? Provide consequences, then present banana… etc
Errorless Discrimination Training
You present s🔺in a very weak form and gradually increase its strength.
Rules for discrimination Training
- Define the target behavior
- Select appropriate discriminative stimuli and their consequences.
- Present the sD and s🔺 with appropriate consequences.
- Monitor Results
Stimulus Control
The tendency for the target behavior to occur in the presence of an sD(appropriate situation) and not in the presence of s🔺(inappropriate)
