This stitch is used to make a narrow piece of fabric fit a wide peace of fabric. For example to fit a gathered frill into a cushion

This is a strong stitch used instead of a machine to sew seams

Top sewing
A
This small, secure stitch is worked on the right side of the fabric. It is used to join finished edges together

A stitch that is not permanent but is just there to hold the fabric together while the permanent stitch is being done
